Kate Colby Nelson, MA

Kate Colby Nelson has over 30 years experience as a Holistic Health and Wellness Practitioner, Educator, and Therapeutic Movement Guide.  Her services have included Therapeutic Movement, Dance, Yoga, Nutritional Assessment and Holistic Health Counseling.  Her love and devotion to the healing arts of the body led her to the integrated path of  Mind/Body Medicine, Yoga & Chakra Studies, Functional Medicine, New Thought Philosophy, and the Science of Heart Intelligence. 

She is a licensed HeartMath Coach/Mentor and uses the tools and techniques scientifically researched by The Institute of HeartMath in her Radiant Living Life Coaching sessions.  

From a very young age she was drawn to studies of anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology.  While obtaining her Masters of Arts degree in Dance and Exercise Science she studied advanced neuropsychology courses out of curiosity and intrigue with the mind/body connection.

Kate loves working with adolescents, teachers, women in transition, athletes, and those with health challenges or conditions related to stress.   Although technically a “coach” Kate prefers guide or facilitator as her professional moniker, and likens herself as a tour guide for the adventurous soul seeker.

She lives in the Reno/Tahoe area with her family and enjoys all that the beautiful Sierras and Lake Tahoe region have to offer.

The question I am most often asked

“When describing what takes place in a Seeds of Radiance session I am most often asked if coherence practice is like meditation or relaxation.  Coherence is the synchronization of the heart, brain, and other systems of the body which can be measured by heart rate variability.  In relaxation and meditation there is often a withdrawing of the senses and activation of the parasympathetic nervous system, the part of the autonomic system which slows everything down.  Although you can experience coherence in relaxation and meditation it is also experienced in very high states of positive emotions like joy and exhilaration.  Think of an athlete during peak performance, their heart and respiration rates may be very high but they can maintain coherence and stay  focused, efficient, and act quickly.  They are “in the zone”.

Another example is people who work in stressful or life saving environments.  An ER doc must be able to think clearly and quickly and access all  of their faculties - a doc in a meditative or relaxed state is different than one in coherence. 

Seeds of Radiance sessions train clients in reaching, maintaining, and integrating the power of coherence into their daily lives.
